So powerful can this 'interconnectedness' feeling with the environment be that many astronauts looking back at Earth became so awestruck on suddenly realising just what a fragile thin blue line of atmosphere the Earth is surrounded by, and just how fragile its life really is. For many this also lead to changes in behavior and reassessment of personal values on returning back to Earth. This phenomena was eventually given the term 'overview effect.'
Many times i've maintained that we don't all need to go to the moon to experience this 'interconnectedness feeling'. Thanks Eco-psycholgist Rosie for exploring with descriptive language how we can all keep our sense of awe for the World around us growing. The mauri/life force is not an intangible element, it just take a little effort to grow our understanding and awareness of it.
It's Winter now and the rains have swollen the river outside, but just reading the article was enough to make me want to get in for a swim around.
